Princess & Pirates.

So i've been super busy with cakes recently, hence the lack of posting.. *slaps wrist*

But here's a little uppy date on a couple of cakes i've done..

First is a bicycle cake for someone from Bobby Jo's Diner.. Bringing me customers already ;P

Second is a cake for my neice, for her 5th birthday. She had a princess and pirate party, so i was asked to do a big girly castle cake for her. Was really excited to do this one as it's my first castle cake.. Wasn't so excited for the hour and a half delivery though!

Thirdly is a cake for one of my favourite customers, I literally do all of her birthday cakes and it's a joy to be involved in her family. This is for her mother in laws 60th birthday, as she loves rasta men and collects them!

Lastly is a two tier cake for my friend's mum's birthday. She coaches a netball team, hence the giant netball on top! Bottom tier was my first ever 10" cake, yet i covered it better than the normal 8", it's sods law! Also found it a little difficult to cover the ball on top, but i'm proud of the results :)

Thanks for looking :)

Vintage Darling!

So the other day I was browsing through ebay in the 'cake decorator' section (dangerous when your broke like me!) and I came across these goooorgeous cameo brooch moulds and knew that I had to have them, or my entire world would collapse.. or something like that.
So what do you know, I accidently click buy it now.. and three days later, they they were, my new babies!

However when it got round to using them (I made up an excuse to bake cupcakes, as you do) I was so tired and grumpy that I really didn't use them to my full potential. But saying that they aren't too bad, so i'm happy. And my partner wasn't complaining at the heap of banana and cinnamon cupcakes to be eaten either!

Iced Jems Feature!

So I was looking through flickr (as I usually am 90% of the time) and I happened to come across a gorgeous rose cake pop, by a lady called Jemma.

And here is said cake pop..

Anyway, a little while later I receive a really nice email from her complementing my cakes.. So we get talking, and it turns out she has a lovely blog (much better than mine!) and she says she wants to do a feature on me!
How could I say no?

So a few cheesey answers later here it is..
Iced Jems feature on me..

If you'd like to check out the post for yourself, just click the picture below to be taken to her blog and see all her wonderful creations and tutorials! Thanks for looking!

Bobby Jo's 50s Diner Re-Opening!

When i saw that Southend's best diner had closed due to floor leaks i was gutted, but jumped at the chance of offering them a re-opening cake!

With their baby blue and pink colour theme, and traditional american milkshakes and icecream desserts, i knew i could have alot of fun with this cake.. and i really did! It was my first time doing a two tier cake, and i did struggle a little, but now i know how to do it and what to expect for next time.

The top tier was lemon rind cake, with vanilla buttercream. There is such a HUGE difference in using fresh fruit instead of flavourings, i've definately been converted down the natural route now! The bottom tier was a rich chocolate cake with plenty of dulce de leche filling!

Tony and Jo, the owners, were so welcoming and really loved the cake, which was a huge relief. It was raining when i delivered it, so my partner was frantically looking for a brolly, but not alot of damage was done to it thank God! I think they loved the 'No Wet Floor' sign the most, which was a nice little touch to add!

They offered us a free milkshake (i ordered bubblegum ofcourse!) and a free meal each, which was absolutely gorgeous, and it was so lovely in there that i just can't wait to go again.

But enough of talking, bring on the photos!

All in all it was a really great day, and they've kindly offered to put some business cards up and suggest me to party bookings.. So hopefully there will be more cakes like this in my future!

Love Is In The Air..

I hope that everybody had a gorgeous valentines day, I was personally surprised with rose petals and sweets when i woke up!
Of course i made my partner a cake, it really comes in handy being a cake decorator sometimes :P
These are just a couple of cupcakes and cakes that i made for Valentines, hope you enjoy!

I was also over the moon when i saw that i was featured on Sunday Sweets: Cake Wrecks. The cake was made for my partner this time last year, when i was just 17.. So to be worthy of being posted at just 17 feels amazing! You can check it out by following this link..

This is the cake that got posted, one of my first ever!
